The cost of IT Support
When choosing an IT service provider, you must remember that “cheaper” can be more expensive. With differing levels of expertise on offer a lower price might pique your interest but what about hidden charges, also speak to there references to understand if they deliver in the real world.
IT support prices vary, there are two models the ad-hoc “break/fix” which is pay as you go or the fully managed service which is set for a fixed monthly fee.
Pay as you go – cost of IT Support
Pay as you go IT support is suited to small teams and start-ups that are looking for professional service and working on a lower budget. Pay as you go is charged at a fixed hourly rate, with charges for travel and time. You can buy blocks of time based on your requirements, with a small retainer which covers the onboarding, monitoring, and scheduled maintenance.
With pay as you go IT support offers the same services as a fully managed service including network maintenance, updates, remote network monitoring, firewall management and Antivirus updates.
If your IT infrastructure is mission critical pay as you go should be avoided because its not cost effective, if you require daily support this can get very expensive, so knowing your IT support is being taken care of within budget is the way to go. Typical hourly rates range between £50 – £85 per hour with a one hour minimum, with discounts for block hours around 5% to 20%.
Fully Managed IT Support Pricing – cost of IT Support
Fully managed IT support prices are based on the number of users, devices, servers and network infrastructure as well as size of data within the business. It includes IT helpdesk support via phone, email with remote support during business hours as well as onsite visits.
Charging is usually per user + infrastructure so always confirm what you are paying for. Managed IT Support will go deeper into your business, helping you with administration of your users, your services, purchasing and business goals.
Fully managed IT support is unlimited, unrestricted with no limits to the number of calls or tickets you raise, support for 3rd party Software installations along with oversight on bespoke packages which are usually supported by the vendors. Typical packages across the industry per user are between £50 to £135 per user depending on the complexity. Servers range from £100 to £400 per month.
